AWARDS

The Tokyo Toy Museum was awarded the Grand Prix for 2023 in the Children in Museums Award, an annual international award given to hands-on museums for children!

Excerpts from the evaluation report;
It places great importance on ‘Omotenashi’ (hospitality), greeting all visitors with a smile, then actively communicating with children and their parents by having fun together, rather than teaching them how to play.

ENJYOYING THE MUSEUM

1For everyone from adults to children.

There is a dedicated playroom for babies (age 2 years and under), as well as wooden toys that kids will love, analog games that will entertain teens, and old toys that adults will find comforting and nostalgic.

2Learn about traditional Japanese games.

Senior volunteers teach traditional Japanese games and Okinawan folk toys, such as grass toys, and how to play them.

3Play with 5,000 toys from around the world.

While the museum is focused on wooden toys from Japan, you can also play with toys from various countries across Asia and Europe.

4Craft activities are offered.

Make traditional Okinawan grass toys, create crafts using milk cartons and other recyclable materials, or build toys with an electric scroll saw (same-day reservations required, first-come, first-served basis).
